THE ROTARY
Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves
What we do
Rotary members believe that we have a shared responsibility to take action on our world’s most persistent issues. Our 46,000+ clubs work together to:
- Promote peace
- Fight disease
- Provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Save mothers and children
- Support education
- Grow local economies
- Protect the environment
We provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders
Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves
HISTORY - Rotary started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships.
Over time, Rotary’s reach and vision gradually extended to humanitarian service. Members have a long track record of addressing challenges in their communities and around the world. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on six continents.
Rotary is made up of three parts: our clubs, Rotary International, and The Rotary Foundation. Together, we work to make lasting change in our communities and around the world.
Rotary clubs - Rotary and Rotaract clubs unite dedicated people to exchange ideas, build relationships, and take action.
Rotary International- Rotary International supports Rotary clubs worldwide by coordinating global programs and initiatives
The Rotary Foundation - The Rotary Foundation helps fund our humanitarian activities, from local service projects to global initiatives.
When you partner with Rotary, our 1.4 million members amplify your impact, elevate your brand, advance important causes, improve communities, and gain access to global connections.
Polio - We began our fight against polio in 1979 with a project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, polio remains endemic in only two countries — down from 125 in 1988
Rotary is a leading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. With help from our partners, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Health Organization, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, we’ve made the world 99.9 percent polio-free
Disaster relief
Rotary and ShelterBox collaborate to provide emergency shelter and vital supplies to stabilize, protect, and support communities affected by disasters and humanitarian crises
Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
Rotary partners with the U.S. Agency for International Development to assist countries in providing safely managed water, sanitation and hygiene services, while sustainably managing water resources.
Rotary also works with UNICEF to provide technical guidance in the development and implementation of our WASH in Schools Target Challenge.
